Are
you interested and talented in Dance, Drama, Music or
Visual Arts? If so, the Toronto Catholic District School
Board offers an intensive ARTS Programme at Cardinal
Carter Academy for the Arts.
Programme
The ARTS programme provides
artistically talented students with the opportunity
to study, Dance, Drama, Music or Visual Arts in the
company of other students with similar interests.
Upon completion of the four-year
programme, students will receive a certificate recognizing
their achievement in the Arts along with the regular
Graduation Diploma.
The ARTS programme serves
the needs of artistically talented students, some of
whom are exploring the possibility of a career in the
arts while others are taking advantage of an education
in and through the arts.
ADMISSION
Admission into either Grade
seven, eight, or nine is based on a positive audition
and successful completion of the regular grade levels
will be considered on an individual basis. Auditions
will be held on January 28th, 2000. Complete
information packages for the auditions will be mailed
to your home once you have applied by January 7th,
2000.
The decision of the Audition
Committee is final. There is a $15.00 non-refundable
fee per audition to cover the audition costs. APPLICATION

ARTS
SPECIALITY POLICY
Candidates who are successful
in their audition and eventually register at CCAA are
expected to maintain a 60% average in their arts specialty.
If a student should fail his/her arts specialty in June
(<50%) he/she will be asked to leave the school so
that students on the waiting list may have the opportunity
to study at CCAA.
DANCE
The Dance programme is designed
to familiarize the student with dance as a performing
art form. Students will be actively involved in the
development of the technical, creative and professional
skills needed for the successful dance expression. THE
curriculum is based on ballet and modern dance; however
students are also exposed to Jazz and other styles.
All dance students study composition as well as dance
theory which includes the study of Dance history, anatomy,
nutrition, a variety of dance repertoire and students
performance also constitutes opportunity to audition
for CCAA’s Dance Ensemble. The programme is enriched
by guest artists and teachers, films, workshops and
the attendance at live performances. Dance Audition
Requirements (specifics to follow once you apply) The
students will: Participate in a 90 minute dance
class/workshop (ballet, modern and jazz) Do a one
minute improvisation to show their personal creativity
and self expression Be interviewed by an audition
panel.
DRAMA
The
drama programme focuses on developing creativity imagination,
interpersonal communication skills, spontaneity and
those skills and talents necessary for successful theatrical
expression. Students follow the historical development
of the theatre as they do interpretive work in mask,
creative and interpretive movement , voice, clown, improvisation,
commedia d’ell arte, Shakespeare, Stanislavsky and Epic
Theatre. Drama Audition Requirements (specifics to follow

MUSIC
The music programme focuses
on developing the skills for successful musical expression.
To develop performance skills students will study: solos
and small ensemble repertoire with assistance from guest
artists/teachers; stage deportment, interpretation and
technique. Musicianship, and critical listening skills
will be enhanced through the study of: music history,
listening, concert reviews, ear-training and sight singing.
All students will participate in a large
ensemble (orchestra, band, choir). Pianists will develop
accompanying skills. As students advance, there will
be more opportunities for specialized study of Jazz,
teaching, arranging, composition, conducting, and performance
of standard symphonic and chamber repertoire. Music

to sight read a piece of music Be given an ear-training
test Instrumentalists will: Perform a solo piece
and a prepared study of their own choice Perform
required scales. Vocalists will Perform two contrasting
solo pieces with accompaniment
VISUAL
ARTS
The Visual Arts programme
provides opportunities for individual creative and imaginative
growth as well as developing technical skills. Students
will be introduced to experimental and traditional directions
in design, drawing, painting, sculpture, photography,
printmaking and extended media. Complementing the studio
components will be studies in art history and critical
analysis. The student’s discovery of individual strengths
and directions is a prime focus which will lead to specialization
and independent study opportunities at the senior level.
Visual Arts Audition Requirements The students will:
Take part in a studio workshop Be interviewed
by an audition panel Present a portfolio as outlined
in the audition package. Information sheets regarding
portfolio specifics are available upon request through
the main office as well as mailed once you apply.
